“Remember your dreams and fight for them. You must know what you want from life. There is just one thing that makes your dream become impossible: the fear of failure.” – Paulo Coelho

Obstacles Are Inevitable

What are you most passionate about? Could you earn a living from pursuing this passion? While simple questions to consider, many fall short of pursuing their dreams fearing they’ll never realise them.

Society imposes restrictions on us, advising to attend university to get a job which pays well to pay the mortgage. You might get married and have kids, realising this is all there is. While I appreciate not all people subscribe to this way of life; we’re conditioned to accept it as our fate.

It’s interesting to note, the number of people approaching a career in the health and fitness industry late in life. They hail from business, economic and IT backgrounds. They’ve followed the ‘plan’ society imposed on them, realising it simply didn’t suit them.

What are your dreams? Have you been advised against pursuing them? Those who advise against pursuing ones dreams are those who haven’t pursued theirs. They’re living unfulfilled lives, believing ‘this is how it’s meant to be.’ But who made up that story? Why weren’t we taught as children to dream big and pursue those dreams? Why weren’t we given the resources and encouragement to make those dreams reality?

I’m currently working with some amazing people, to make my dreams reality. Such people exist; they’re out there willing to show you the way if you dare take the journey. Pursuing your dreams requires courage, faith and determination. It’s possibly the most challenging pursuit I’ve undertaken. To date, I’ve experienced more setbacks than victories. Would I exchange it for a 9 – 5 job paying a salary? No way.

Challenges and obstacles are one of the many reasons why people fail in their pursuit of their dreams. The setbacks and pitfalls toward success are fraught with obstacles they’d rather avoid. There’s a need to have it NOW. Psychologists call this emotional intelligence and have devised tests to determine one’s ability to delay gratification. People need assurance there is money and food on the table, instead of struggling to make ends meet.

I’ve experienced moments of wanting to throw in the towel in the past. The thought of continuing was not worth it. The setbacks were too numerous to mention. I was fighting a losing battle waged against the universe. However, I wasn’t tuning into what was taking shape behind the scene. Amidst my challenges, I was becoming someone of character. I was learning valuable lessons on the road toward success; these lessons were priceless.

The most important aspect underlying my persistence is a burning desire within. Over the years, through persistence and setbacks, I’ve harnessed an indelible determination. It’s a feeling, an intuition which advises me to keep going – “you’re almost there” it tells me. I know that feeling well from my sporting pursuits. Over time, I’ve called upon it at during my darkest hours.

These days when I feel defeated, my inner guide comes to attention as if on automatic pilot. It instructs me to strike again with hunger and an unquenchable thirst. My hope and enthusiasm is renewed. There are days where I retire to bed feeling as though I’ve been defeated. Upon rising the next day, I feel the hope of a new day dawning and the belief I can make it happen.

Pursue Your Path Intently

So how does one develop their inner purpose? The key to harnessing your inner power is through defeat. It is through repeated setbacks that one’s inner strength and conviction is realised. There’s something undeniable about the human spirit. Our strength and resolve is borne out of character. The need to improve ourself gives rise to the search for meaning and purpose.

Our dreams have been given to us by the universe. Achieving your dreams is challenging. It does not deny you the ability to persist despite how tough and unforgiving the journey may seem. If you love what you do and inspired to take action daily, let go of how your dreams should unfold. Enjoy the process instead. I love learning and making mistakes each time I try something new. My video blogs are testament to that. While it’s not exactly what I intend producing in terms of quality at this point in time, I know in a few months I’ll have the process fine-tuned to something I’m happy with.

Get out there and make your dreams reality. Prove it can be done your way – make it your mantra. Be different. Be bold. Don’t worry about others. Run your own race and let go of comparing yourself . Their journey is different to yours. You need to find what works best for you and pursue it with all your heart and soul.

As part of your journey toward the realisation of your dreams, you will meet with challenges, obstacles and roadblocks. Be ready for them. They’re part of the trip. Call upon your inner guide. That feeling within advising you to continue forward. It’s an inner resolve; an inner conviction which says ‘it can be done.’

You job is to find that inner state and draw on it every time you encounter challenges. Let me advise you those obstacles will appear as sure as the sun rises each day. Meet the challenge head on. Despite not knowing how to navigate your way ahead; you trust the process will be made known to you once you commit to the path.

Your dreams, goals and visions lie waiting in the not too distant future. Make the decision to bravely go in the direction of your dreams.
