“As your faith is strengthened you will find that there is no longer the need to have a sense of control, that things will flow as they will, and that you will flow with them, to your great delight and benefit.” – Emmanuel Teney
Are you a worrier or a warrior? While I know that may sound cliché, allow me to give you a little insight to support the question. Dan Millman wrote a part-fictional, part-autobiographical book based upon his early life called Way of the Peaceful Warrior. To quote Wikipedia, “The story tells of a chance meeting with a service station attendant who becomes a spiritual teacher to the young gymnast, Dan Millman. The attendant, whom Millman names Socrates, becomes a kind of father figure and teaches Millman how to become a “peaceful warrior.”
Returning back to my earlier question. My definition of a warrior is not defined by one who engages in war – far from it in fact. Dan Millman refers to himself as a peaceful warrior, since his outlook on life is forever transformed as he resolves to co-operate with the forces of life, rather than oppose them.
The story highlights the significance of allowing life to unfold through us. The understanding that we too can become peaceful warriors, underscores the willingness to move through life with ease and simplicity. The greatest war we undertake is waged within ourselves, since we create mental anguish when life does not go according to plan. Consider for a moment that there may be a greater plan for you beyond what you believe is conceivable.
Trust the Process
In order to align with the awareness of such a plan, you must learn to trust in the process of life. The following formula serves as a metaphor for allowing trust to work in your life.
Trust = Surrender + Faith.
The concept of surrender does not imply apathy or inaction as many are led to believe. Surrender is a mental and emotional process of letting go of preconceived ideas, thoughts or beliefs of how life should develop. When you surrender, you allow the essence of life to unfold unimpeded by one’s limited perception.
Faith is the kindle on the fire which gives rise to trust. Without kindling there would be smoke and ash. Faith is a slow burning flame requiring time and patience to develop. One must readily make small advances in the direction of faith in order to yield positive outcomes. By allowing faith to serve you on a smaller scale, you collaborate with the expansive energy of life as it permeates throughout your entire being.
In his book, The Holographic Universe author Michael Talbot suggests there are multi universes simultaneously in existence, sometimes called parallel universes. The term multiverse has come to embody the idea that everything that can exist, already does so within the space-time continuum. According to metaphysics, everything you desire is already out there in formless matter. All your financial, physical and relationship desires already exist within a higher dimension. To realise their manifestation requires that you align with the frequency and vibration of the formless energy.
What this means in simple terms is that your desires already exists somewhere, somehow beyond the physical universe. Therefore if it is already in existence, there must be something disallowing it from making its way into your life. Right? I contend it is our thoughts, beliefs, ideas and emotional frequency which restricts this energy to become a match with our desires. It may be viewed as constructing an invisible wall between ourselves and our desires.
Allow Life to Unfold Through You
When we allow life to reveal herself through us we consent to everything that happens to us, even if we are not aware of the complete picture at the time. We take the so called good with the bad and trust that it is serving our personal evolution. You cannot make a mistake when you choose consciously. The process of surrendering to universal wisdom invites a higher, innate intelligence to do its job without our distracting mind opposing it.
Life has a rhythm and a process of its own, that may not fit in with our plans. Our minds were never intended to figure out the processes of life, since that remains the realm of the higher mind. Our minds are storehouses and retrieval depots, formed of memories we call upon to interpret our present day experiences. Therefore we may suffer mental anguish and emotional grief when we dare venture into that which is ‘unknown.’
Trusting life is a journey unlike one you will ever experience. For many this may be met with a sense of hesitation and intrepidation. It is human nature to search for security and comfort, knowing we will not be thrown a curve ball when we least expect it. Yet life is impermanent if it is to create itself anew within each moment. Everything is subject to an expiration date and the cycles of life are indicative of this changing force.
In order to trust the forces of life, start small by venturing out of your comfort zone. While taking baby steps, allow yourself to be guided by drawing on your inner wisdom. Access your inner guidance by letting your intuition to serve as a GPS, directing you to that which resonates with your deeper self. How will you know you are acting on intuition? Intuition feels right – it feels like home.
Like anything which requires practice, the more you use it the more familiar you become with the language of intuition, which is ultimately the spiritual language of your soul guiding you.
