Find Your Determination To Succeed

“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.” — Napoleon Hill

Life is a game of trials and it’s impossible to experience ups all the time because life hands us lemons when least expect it. But despite this, we can learn to move ahead and not allow setbacks and disappointments to get us down. I know it’s easier said than done, but we need to stay motivated for the road ahead, since life is a long journey. It’s easy to stay down, sad and gloomy and drown in insecurity or self-pity, but it will force us to give up and perform at our worst.

As I’m writing this article, I can relate to it because I’ve been there; we all have. But in those tough moments, we ought to allow our hidden strength to emerge. I say hidden because many people don’t think they can deal with their problems until they have to. These are the moments that signify your strength and determination to prevail. Such moments differentiate between winners and the rest of the world. So, if you’re feeling sad and unmotivated, here are some guiding principles to help you through your difficulties.

1. Mindset

An empowering mindset is useful to help you stay motivated, not a positive mindset. There’s a difference, and it involves developing grit and resilience in the face of our challenges. For example, I have felt a transformation in myself over the past few years and I can say that changing our mindset will help tremendously. Therefore, let go of your fear-filled mindset. I know you might have felt insecure about your future. But trust in yourself and your outlook on life will change. You will feel more balanced, stronger, confident, and happier. This cheerful attitude will reflect in your work and personal life. By believing there will be a better tomorrow, you keep yourself out of misery and focussed on the next positive steps to take. Keep in mind that change has to happen. If you are sad today, it will not remain the same and things will improve for the better as long as you don’t give up on yourself.

2. People

People in your life play an important role. For instance, are they motivating you or tearing you down? Are they affecting your mood in a positive or a negative way? No matter how strong you are, if you spend time with people who have a limited mindset, it’s hard to stay resilient. Eventually, you’ll develop negative feelings about yourself and find it hard to navigate change. So, make it your priority to stay in the company of those who can affect your life in a positive sense. People who have achieved success have gone through failures. These people can guide you in a better way. Successful people are those that push you to new heights. The more successful and confident people you socialise with, the higher chances are for your success.

“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no help at all.” — Dale Carnegie
3. Inspiration

It’s important to find a source of inspiration in and around you. There are many sources of inspiration in the world nowadays, despite current conditions. For example, you might attend self-help classes, read inspirational books, listen to podcasts, or visit seminars. No matter how serious your situation is, no matter how frustrated you are, you’ll find someone who has been in a similar situation and has coped. Draw inspiration from such sources. For example, read good books on spirituality and allow it to permeate your soul.

Michael Singer’s acclaimed book, The Untethered Soul, is a must read for anyone wanting to improve their life and free themselves from limitations and boundaries. Here are my top 20 books to read on self-improvement. I recommend them to clients I coach and anyone looking to improve their life. It must become a habit or a practice you can lean on regularly. Your thoughts will change and help you find your way back to your old-self. Also, successful people can help you learn new things that may help you in the future. Remember, an empowering attitude goes a long way.

4. Goals

When I was in going through a rough spell, it took months to recover. I was in that situation for nearly a year and lost my ability to navigate my way forward. I had anxiety and insecurity about my future, but I knew I wanted to flourish. I knew deep inside there will be a better future and I strived for it. If the people in your life are holding you back, find other company, but don’t isolate yourself from the world. Make some new goals. Promise yourself you’ll meet an old friend on a particular date. Go out and watch a movie with friends. Form small goals that will let you live and breathe happily. When you know what you want, it is easier to achieve it. If you want to stay on the right track, make sure you know what the track is. Be persistent and keep pushing. Your situation will eventually change, as long as you keep moving forward and not allow setbacks to defeat you.

Conclusion

Don’t be disappointed. We all have setbacks in life. Sometimes, nothing seems to work and life goes in the wrong direction. But having an empowering mindset can change everything. Perception is the glue which creates our reality, so change your perception of your current conditions. Surround yourself with encouraging and successful people and stay inspired. Formulate your goals and know what you want in life. Follow all the points and your life will change for sure.

    • Hi Mary, staying motivated and committed to one’s goals is demanding. The obvious pay-off is achieving the goal of course. Stay vigilant in your pursuit to weed out the negative thoughts and emotional state which accompanies them. Best of luck!
