“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on”Robert Frost

Before beginning this post, I would like to say that I’m not one of those wild old saints who know a lot about life, but whatever I have learned from my life, I’ll share it with you. Of course, you don’t need to be old to be wise. So here is a compilation of what I’ve learned till now:

Stay positive

Staying positive is THE best way to be happy. I have seen people who stay happy and calm, no matter what happens to them. They are always happy. Your lover left you? You lost some money? Just say ‘meh’ and move on. I know it’s easier said than done, but believe me, I have met such people and they are the happiest people in the world. Without a worry in the world, they are never sad. They are happy and content and don’t have a lot of wishes. Of course they don’t have big goals, but then contentment is a big goal in itself.

Keep karma in mind

I know many of you might not believe in it, but as I have felt it myself, good karma brings good results and a warm and fuzzy feeling. Helping someone might not give you money in return, but it will give you a warm feeling inside your heart. If you think you can help someone in distress, do so. Try to appreciate the ethics of your behaviour. It will make you a more respected person. You might cheat someone and earn a few dollars, but karma will get back at you. Stay ethical and stay happy.

Don’t trust blindly

Don’t blindly trust anyone. People are people. They have human weaknesses. If they find they can gain something by cheating on you, they might do that. Nobody in this world deserves your blind trust. But then again, I’m not saying not to trust anyone. Just don’t trust them blindly. Many people end up depressed and miserable because of their emotional weaknesses. They trusted someone blindly and was cheated in the end. Make sure you trust people (because that is good), but don’t trust anyone blindly.

Be independent

You may be financially or emotionally dependant on someone. I know it is not possible to be independent in an absolute sense, but make sure you do not depend on someone to that extent that your existence depends upon them. It is always best to be independent to a large degree. This way you will not be a burden on anyone.

Save something for the rainy days

There are people who earn money and then spend it on useless things. In the end, they have nothing left. Make sure you don’t make the same mistake. Make a budget and set some money aside for savings. That money will help you in rainy days.

Have fun

There are people who just keep saving money without spending it. Yes, saving is good, but if you are just sitting on a big pile of money, counting it all the time, you are not having any fun. Travel a bit- take a vacation. Go to exotic places and enjoy yourself. It is very important to break the monotony of work. Remember the old saying, “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”.

Fall in love

Falling in love is a very different type of experience. If you have been running away from relationships, just let your stress go for a while and fall in love. Feel free and do stupid things. Go wild in love. When you are in love, you will feel that all your stress melts away. It’s a beautiful feeling and I think everyone should fall in love at least once. Don’t be afraid of heart breaks. They say, “It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all”.

Just be yourself

No matter which race, sexual orientation, or culture you belong to, just be proud of yourself and be happy. If you are a slightly overweight, it’s ok! As long as YOU are fine with your self-image, you don’t have to change it. Don’t let people guide your life. If you are ok being a lazy little foodie, it is perfectly fine. As long as it is not ruining your health, a little chubbiness is ok. Just be happy with who you are. Of course your health and wellbeing should be your primary consideration, but don’t aim for size 0 as advertised by today’s fashion industry.

Live in the present

Past is gone and future is uncertain. What you have right now is present. That’s the only thing you can control. You can either cry or laugh, the choice is yours. I choose to laugh. I thank the universe for what it has given me. Of course I also faced many setbacks in life, but it is best to leave the past behind and simply enjoy the present.
